Why did you come to The School of The New York Times?
365体育备用网址The School of the New York Times seemed like a fantastic way for me to delve deeper into a craft I love so much: writing! I applied to the Summer Academy because I was excited by the idea of spending two weeks in a brand new (to me), lively city and learning how journalism works in New York City and around the world.
What are your key takeaways from the Summer Academy experience?
This experience taught me that one of the best things you can do for yourself is to take risks and put yourself out there! Once you build up the courage to do something challenging and put in hard work, it becomes really rewarding.
What does The New York Times mean to you?
The New York Times is one of the most iconic, well-known newspapers in the world. You can easily see why simply by paging through one of their papers. The New York Times means hard work, passionate reporting, and most of all a dedication to the truth.
What does it mean to you to study in New York City?
365体育备用网址New York City offers so much diversity in a multitude of ways. Everywhere you look there are new restaurants, stores, and ideas. Studying in a place with rich culture like New York City is how you begin to truly learn how to interact with the world and how you fit in it. Getting to study in New York City gave me so many writing and reporting opportunities from the family-owned shops of Jackson Heights to the crowded steps of the MET, there’s always something learn from.
What do you think you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up I want to have a job that lets me interact with people directly. I’d love to work at the UN, as a journalist, or possibly as a member of Congress.
