Why did you decide to study at The School of The New York Times?
I decided to study at The School of The New York Times because I thought it would be a great opportunity to work on my writing, learn from a variety of professionals, and experience New York through a new lens.
Which course did you take and why?
I took the Food and Theater Culture course at the New York campus because I’m passionate about both of those fields.
If you had to name one thing that you learned from your time here, what is that one takeaway that will stay with you?
One thing that will stay with me is what I learned about being a journalist. After learning from so many industry professionals, I discovered that being a journalist isn’t just about writing, nor is it the only writing career.
What was your favorite site visit?
One of the best aspects of this program is the fact that we really do use New York as our classroom. My favorite site visit was to the Hayes Theatre to see What The Constitution Means To Me. That play was one of the most creative, witty, and inspiring productions I’ve ever seen.
Who was the most memorable guest speaker?
The most memorable guest speaker was Mike Ivenson because, as a performer in that show, he gave an inside look at What The Constitution Means To Me. He talked about how he became involved in the show and shared some of his favorite experiences during it.
What were your faculty like?
The faculty were great, especially chef and food writer, Raquel Pelzel. She was so knowledgeable and always happy to help us learn. She knew how to make topics clear and engaging to all her students. Lindsay Hockaday, a member of the Elevator Repair Service theater company, made everyone feel included and gave time for each and every student.
What does The New York Times mean to you?
365体育备用网址After this program, The New York Times is more than just a newspaper. It’s a learning experience. It’s a classroom. It’s a community. And now, it’s a part of me. I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to study and explore New York through this program.
What does it mean to you to study in New York City?
New York was once an overwhelming and far off city, but now it’s a place where I feel comfortable and confident.
What do you think you want to be when you grow up?
