Why did you decide to study at The School of The New York Times?
I aspired to study at the School of The New York Times because of the incredible opportunities and connections this pre-college program provides.
Which course did you take and why?
I took the Reporting the Political Beat course because it is my goal to become a political reporter. This course was held on the DC campus which was incredible, because I got to learn all about political journalism while in the middle of where American government runs.
If you had to name one thing that you learned from your time here, what is that one takeaway that will stay with you?
365体育备用网址The one takeaway that I learned at the School of The New York Times is the importance of connections and hard work. This message was conveyed to us through our wonderful instructors who taught us what it meant to be a good journalist and how important it is to connect with your coworkers and your sources.
What was your favorite site visit?
365体育备用网址My favorite site visit was to the press gallery of the US Senate. This was so interesting to me because I got to see reporters in action and the inside of the US Senate. I learned so much about political reporting through this experience and got to talk to Capitol Hill journalists about how they stay on top of reporting about the Senate and the House.
Who was the most memorable guest speaker?
The most memorable guest speaker to me was Katie Rogers, a White House Correspondent for The New York Times. She was so interesting to talk to and really gave my class insight on political reporting, specifically in the White House. We also discussed current events and how to remain unbiased in a political setting. Hearing her knowledge and wisdom was an especially educational experience.
What were your faculty like?
365体育备用网址The faculty during my course were extremely knowledgeable and truly opened my eyes to what political journalism is all about. They were both very successful journalists and helped me discover that this career is something that I really want to be a part of.
What does The New York Times mean to you?
365体育备用网址The New York Times is a paper of credibility and truth and is a reflection of what true journalism means to me.
What do you think you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up, I hope to be a political journalist and a TV Anchor. This course has solidified my confidence in this choice and helped me realize the steps I need to take in order to reach this long term goal.
