Founder and Producing Artistic Director, New Georges
Susan Bernfield is the founder and producing artistic director of New Georges, a strategically small theater company with a national reputation for taking a first look at new and experimental plays and artists; for its adventurous, boundary-pushing aesthetic; and as a home and a hub for promising and accomplished women theater artists.
365体育备用网址Since 1992, she has produced 43 new plays in New York City, including early work by notable playwrights and directors Lisa D’Amour, Jenny Schwartz, Anne Kauffman, Tracey Scott Wilson, Diana Son, Heidi Schreck, Sheila Callaghan and Daniella Topol. She serves as President of the Alliance of Resident Theaters/New York (A.R.T./New York), the service organization for NYC’s nonprofit theaters; on the boards of The Indie Theatre Fund and 3LD Art & Technology Center; and on the advisory committee to The Drama League’s Beatrice Terry Residency. Bernfield is also a playwright and solo performer whose plays have been presented or developed at, among others, Huntington Theatre, People’s Light & Theatre, O’Neill Playwrights Conference, EST, New Harmony Project and, of course, New Georges. She is the recipient of an OBIE Award for artistic achievement and the 2014 Lilly Award for producing.
