Martha Southgate is the author of four novels: The Taste of Salt, Third Girl From The Left, The Fall of Rome and Another Way to Dance. Her work has won numerous accolades and she has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Bread Loaf Writers Conference. She is a core faculty member in the MFA in Writing program at Vermont College of Fine Arts and also teaches in the MFA in Creative Writing program at Sarah Lawrence College.
365体育备用网址As a freelance writer, she has been published in The New York Times Magazine and The New York Times Book Review multiple times—her Book Review essay was included in the anthology Best African-American Essays 2009. More recently, Southgate’s opinion piece appeared on the Op-Ed page of The New York Times. Her nonfiction work has appeared in many other venues as well, among them O, The Oprah Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and Essence. She has seen Hamilton three times (so far) and wrote about its transformative effect in her essay for The American Scholar.
