His 120-article series on concussions in sports exposed the National Football League’s cover-up of brain trauma in the sport, led to safety improvements for athletes of all ages and was a finalist for the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Many of Schwarz’s other major series and articles used behind-the-scenes statistical concepts to report on subjects ranging from child psychiatry to video games.

365体育备用网址Schwarz has lectured on mathematics in journalism at venues from the U.S. National Institutes of Health to the University of Oxford, and serves on editorial boards of the American Statistical Association and the Royal Statistical Society. He is the author of “The Numbers Game: Baseball’s Lifelong Fascination with Statistics,” ESPN’s 2004 Baseball Book of the Year, and is currently beginning a new career in high school math education.
